CAN THE BEARD STOP GROWING?

“My beard has stopped growing. What do I do?"

There is a question I have received a few times here at HQ. It is a fact that the wires grow at different speeds and so it is important to trim those faster ones to maintain the shape . But does it have a maximum size? Can a beard really stop growing?

In fact it does not stop growing. What happens is that each strand of hair on your body has a "lifetime" before it falls and the cycle begins again with the birth of a new strand.

Just think of the hair on your arm or leg, for example. They don't get as long as your hair strands, right? But they don't stop growing either. What they have is a shorter life cycle and they renew themselves faster. It is as if every hair on your body is programmed to last a specific time before you press the reset button. And we are constantly renewing cells and hair. And the beard is no different.

This life span of a beard hair also varies depending on the region of the face. Chin hair can have a much longer lifespan than face or mustache, for example.

THE LIFE CYCLE OF YOUR BEARD

I can already see that the fall of the wires is something natural and expected. So don't despair if you notice a few strands of beard coming loose. This is just the natural cycle of one thread giving way to another. Unless it begins to fall sharply in a specific region. Then it's time to see a dermatologist. But overall, this cycle is divided into three phases:

ANAGEN PHASE

It is the phase responsible for hair growth and can last from 2 to 7 years. It lasts most of the wire's life. That's when it forms and the root metabolism speeds up for it to grow.

CATAGEN PHASE

It is the transition phase and lasts a few weeks. In this phase the root of the hair follicle shrinks, the hair gives a time to growth and detaches from the root.

TELOGEN PHASE

It is the resting phase and can last up to 3 months. This is where your beard hair can come loose and fall on its own, or it can be pushed out by a new hair that comes around and starts the whole cycle again.
